Exhibition extended to 3rd November

I have been able to extend the time its on to 3rd November. So there are just three days left to see the work. Thursday 1st, Friday the 2nd and Saturday 3rd November. 10am to 4pm. Do come if you can, the installation is something that needs to be experienced rather than looked at. I have also had a lady (Katie Barlow) contact me, who has started filming me about my project. Plus a freelance journalist has  contacted me and may be able to put an article in the guardian art pages. (heres hoping) Its been a slow start but…

At my Private View: I cried, made a sale, spooked out the builder and yoga therapist, and we only drank two bottles of wine.

Glad the private view is over, no more getting up at 4am to finish off the space, work, blurb etc. Barry’s PV was the night before mine, so I already had a mild hangover before the day started. Managed to finish the price list and organise everything for my normal work, before driving to Brighton for 10am. Had already had a crisis over the frames prior, as the frames I had ordered all arrived broken on the friday. No time to get new ones. Found a frame warehouse in London and asked if I could drive up and collect them…

Some Photos of my exhibition and invitation to private view

Really pleased with how the installation is looking.I won’t manage to do the family album before the show ends, but will do that afterwards. Had a bit of inspiration from one of the estate agents that was working upstairs. He had used the bedroom to get changed and left his ironed shirt on the bed. I came down and saw the shirt on the bed and thought “yes! that improves it no end.” There was far too much childrens stuff and it really needed some adult belongings too. Anyway, the bed is now adorned with one of Barry’s shirts. They…

Do I have to pay an entrance fee?

Thought I’d post some photos from the Mayday festival “Jack in the Green” A wonderful pagan festival that Hastings puts on, but in its usual “dark style”. They symbolically slay Jack to mark the beginning of summer. Quite often Morris Dancers are dressed in black with top hats and big ravens hovering, instead of the usual white outfits with ribbons. Its a strange affair, because while everyone is behaving like hippies, we also have an invasion of bikers. Heaven knows how many thousands arrive on the Monday, all to pose and look at the other wondeful bikes. So in the…

Official invitation to my exhibition at Brighton Photo Fringe

I am feeling more positive toady, so sorry about my last, bleak post, “Art makes fools of us all” Those wondeful people following my blog are welcome to come to the private view (if they can make it to Brighton), just message me for details. I had some very supportive comments from friends and decided there was no point in giving up after the first weekend, as there was still time to sort out whatever the problem is, about people not coming. Part of it is my fault, as I had not completely finished and so hadn’t sent out the…

Art makes fools of us all.

Bit of a sweeping statement, but thats how I feel right now. A bit of a fool. Spent all this week getting my exhibition ready. Last night, after finishing (really late) , I had a last look at it and thought, “Oh my God, it does look mad.” I’m going to be really embarrassed sitting in this mock up of a children’s bedroom. People are going to think I am wierd. Also why did I decide to be in an estate agents? What on earth do the young lads upstairs think of a middle aged lady playing with a doll?…

More about my exhibition in Brighton photo fringe

“Photo’s I’ll never take” Exhibition as part of Brighton photo fringe, 6.10.12- 17.11.12 Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm at Mishon Mackay offices, 99-101 Dyke Road, Seven Dials, Brighton, BN1 3JD I will be creating an installation in the former offices of an estate agent. Although in the first week, I will be sharing the space with them, until they move out. Mishon Mackay are very kindly supporting me with the exhibition and have been very kind. I will be turning the space into a home. It will contain typical family photos and objects. I will be continuing to work…

Why I have had my Christmas tree up all year.

Thought I’d post some of the Christmas shots. Christmas being really typical of a family album photo. I still needed a photo of Barry dressed as Father Christmas, which is why, in January, I left the Christmas tree up. As usual life got in the way and I lost momentum, or enthusiasm, for taking the photo. I think it’s partly because our house is such a mess, too. So I left the Christmas tree up thinking I’ll do it next week. By the time August came it started to get embarrassing. I’d feel obliged to explain why there was decorated…

The Post Office just delivered my baby!

Just took delivery of my little baby boy from the Post Office. It was strange, I felt quite excited. This whole make-believe thing is quite interesting, as it really can cross over and bring real emotions. His face seems quite realistic, but his head does seem a little small. He is meant to be a newborn, so maybe his head should be small. Took a couple of shots of him in his cardboard box. Although I was influenced in that, by seeing a photo of a sex doll in the cardboard box she arrived in. I used the bubble wrap…
